Accountant Salary in Dubai vs Outsourced Accounting

Salary is the smallest surprise. A side-by-side of the full cost of hiring an accountant in the UAE against a fixed-fee outsourced package, and how to decide which suits your business.

Most UAE founders reach the same point in their first year. The trade licence is issued, the bank account is open, invoices are going out, and someone needs to own the books. The VAT return is due every quarter. The Corporate Tax return is due nine months after year-end. And by 31 March 2027, every business with revenue under AED 50 million needs an accredited e-invoicing provider in place.

The instinct is to hire. A general accountant in Dubai earns around AED 4,000 to 5,500 a month, which looks manageable. But salary is only part of what an employee costs in the UAE, and a junior hire rarely covers everything the compliance calendar now asks for.

This guide sets out the full numbers, what a fixed-fee outsourced package actually includes, and the cases where hiring in-house is genuinely the better choice.

The short answer

For most UAE startups and SMEs with up to a few hundred transactions a month, outsourcing is cheaper and covers more. A junior in-house accountant costs roughly AED 69,000 a year once visa, health insurance, gratuity and software are added. A fixed-fee package covering bookkeeping, VAT, Corporate Tax and e-invoicing starts at AED 4,990 a year.

What a UAE startup has to keep on top of

Before comparing costs, it helps to be clear about the job. In year one, a typical UAE company needs to handle:

ObligationWhen it applies
Bookkeeping and bank reconciliationEvery month, with records kept for at least seven years for Corporate Tax
VAT registrationMandatory once taxable supplies pass AED 375,000 in 12 months; voluntary from AED 187,500
VAT returnsQuarterly for most businesses, due 28 days after the period ends
Corporate TaxRegistration for every company; the return is due nine months after the financial year ends
E-invoicingAppoint an accredited provider by 31 March 2027 and go live by 1 July 2027 (revenue under AED 50m)
Payroll through WPSEvery month, once you have employees registered with MOHRE
Financial statementsEvery year, with an audit where required, for example if you are a Qualifying Free Zone Person

Each of these carries its own penalty. Late Corporate Tax registration alone costs AED 10,000, and missing the e-invoicing appointment date costs AED 5,000 for every month or part of a month.

That’s the job. The question is who does it.

Accountant salary in Dubai in 2026, and the real cost of hiring

Start with salary. The average accountant salary in Dubai is around AED 4,000 a month for a general accountant, with most offers between AED 3,000 and AED 5,500 depending on experience and sector. Chartered accountant salaries in Dubai are considerably higher: roughly AED 13,000 to AED 27,000 a month.

Then add what UAE law puts on the employer:

  • Visa and work permit. Under the UAE Labour Law, Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, the employer pays the full cost of the employment visa, work permit, medical test and Emirates ID. On the mainland this typically runs AED 4,000 to AED 7,500 per two-year cycle.
  • Health insurance. Mandatory for employees across all emirates since January 2025. Basic cover starts at around AED 600 to AED 1,200 a year.
  • End-of-service gratuity. It builds up from the first day: 21 days of basic salary for each of the first five years of service.
  • Software. Your accountant still needs an accounting system and, from 2027, an accredited e-invoicing provider. Integrated SME packages typically cost AED 2,000 to AED 6,000 a year.

The point most businesses miss

A VAT designated zone is not automatically a Corporate Tax designated zone. TAXP010 states this explicitly. If your zone appears on the VAT list but is not a Corporate Tax Free Zone, it does not qualify for Corporate Tax purposes.

Worked example: a junior accountant in Dubai

CostAnnual (AED)Basis
Salary60,000AED 5,000 a month
End-of-service gratuity2,10021 days of basic salary, on an AED 3,000 basic
Visa and work permit2,750About AED 5,500 per two-year cycle
Health insurance1,000Basic mandatory cover
Accounting and e-invoicing software3,000Typical SME subscription
Total68,850About AED 5,700 a month

And that’s before the costs that don’t appear on a payslip:

  • Recruitment. Agency fees, or several weeks of a founder’s time.
  • Leave cover. Thirty days of annual leave a year, and the VAT deadline doesn’t move while your accountant is away.
  • Keeping up with new rules. 2026 alone brought supplier verification under FTA Decision 13 and the e-invoicing mandate.
  • Review. A junior accountant can keep the books, but Corporate Tax elections, Small Business Relief and free zone positions usually need qualified sign-off, so many companies end up paying an adviser as well.

A qualified accountant changes the numbers further. At AED 13,000 a month in salary, the all-in cost approaches AED 170,000 a year.

What outsourced accounting services in Dubai cover

Fintra Global’s packages are priced by monthly transaction volume, at one fixed fee. Every package includes the accredited e-invoicing provider’s subscription, so there is no separate provider contract to manage.

Set against the worked example, even the Pro package costs less than a fifth of a junior hire, and qualified review is built in rather than bought separately.

When hiring in-house is the better choice

Outsourcing isn’t right for everyone. Hiring makes more sense when:

  • You need someone on site every day. Cash handling, stock counts, or approving payments daily need a person in the building.
  • Your volume is high across several entities. Past several hundred transactions a month, a full-time team member starts to earn their cost.
  • Finance is a function, not a task. If you need weekly management reporting, budgeting and investor work, you are hiring a finance team, not a bookkeeper.

Even then, many businesses run a hybrid: an in-house bookkeeper for daily processing, with tax filings, reviews and e-invoicing compliance handled outside. A part-time accountant is a third option between the two.

What to check before you outsource

Whoever you choose, ask these questions before you sign:

  • What counts as a transaction? Fixed fees are tiered by volume, so ask how invoices, bills and bank lines are counted.
  • Is the e-invoicing provider included? Some firms quote for bookkeeping and leave the provider subscription to you.
  • Who reviews the filings? Ask whether a qualified accountant signs off your VAT and Corporate Tax returns.
  • What’s excluded? A statutory audit and backlog clean-up are usually separate. If your books are already behind, backlog accounting is a one-off job before the monthly service starts.
  • Who owns the data? Your books should sit in a system you can access and take with you.
  • How fast are invoices issued? Once e-invoicing is live, late transmission is penalised per invoice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the average accountant salary in Dubai in 2026?

A general accountant earns around AED 4,000 to 5,500 a month. Once visa, health insurance, gratuity and software are added, a junior hire costs roughly AED 69,000 a year. Qualified accountants earn about AED 13,000 to 27,000 a month.

Can a free zone company outsource its accounting?

Yes. Free zone companies have the same VAT, Corporate Tax and e-invoicing obligations as mainland companies, and many also need audited financial statements.

Does outsourced accounting include e-invoicing?

It depends on the provider. Fintra Global’s packages include the accredited service provider subscription, so there is no separate provider contract.

Is outsourcing worth it for a startup with few transactions?

Usually, yes. With up to 50 transactions a month, a fixed annual fee costs a fraction of a salary and still covers VAT, Corporate Tax and e-invoicing.

What if my books are already behind?

Bring them up to date first with a one-off backlog clean-up, then move to a monthly package.

Choosing the right setup

For most founders, the useful question isn’t who keeps the books. It’s who makes sure every deadline is met, every filing is reviewed, and the business is ready for e-invoicing before 31 March 2027. Compare the full cost, not the payslip.

Salary figures are from GulfTalent (June 2026), Glassdoor (October 2026) and the Michael Page UAE Salary Guide 2026, as reported. Visa, insurance and software ranges are from published 2026 employer and e-invoicing cost guides. All figures are directional; your costs depend on your emirate, licence type and package.
